A year after receiving a life-saving kidney transplant, it sounds like Selena Gomez is now fighting a different battle. Selena Gomez Seeks Treatment for an undisclosed medical condition, a source close to the singer tells CNN.

“She was recently hospitalized after complications from her kidney transplant, and she’s committed to focusing on her health.”

According to TMZ, who was the first to report the news, Gomez has reportedly been hospitalized after having an emotional breakdown during a recent hospital stay, and the singer is now undergoing mental health treatment.

Selena Gomez is suffering From Lupus. Lupus is a chronic disease that can affect any part of the body – typically the skin, joints, blood and kidneys, according to the Lupus Foundation of America.

The immune systems of lupus sufferers essentially go haywire, and instead of fighting off viruses and bacteria with antibodies, their bodies create autoantibodies that attack healthy tissue. Symptoms can include fatigue, fever, weight loss, painful joints, rash, hearing loss, anemia, abnormal bloating and mouth ulcers.

“Selena is receiving treatment and has the full support of her friends and family,” the source said. Gomez has suffered two emergencies when she had a low white blood cell count, which made her “despondent and emotional.”

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” Gomez wrote.

“So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.”

Gomez said the transplant was “what I needed to do for my overall health” and she thanked Raisa in an Instagram posting showing the two of them holding hands across their hospital beds.
